Hot water heater leaking

I have a 98 kit companaion 25ft 5th wheel, the hot water tank is laeking. It leaks at where it looks like you would drain it. Its a instant start heater, and when you open the panel on the outside of the trailer there is a huge bolt(the main drain i take it??).
It is leaking very slowly from the threads. How tight should these nuts be? How do i take it off, i dont have a socket that big and should i just put some thread tape on it?
Thanks

Bunk models

are the bunks in 5th wheel and travel trailers a generic size or do they come in a bunch of different sizes? Pretty vague question i know but...

RE: fridge cooling

Be advised that the fridge needs 12V power even when running on LP gas. This is to operate the ignitor and the electronics. So while in storage you'll need to make sure your battery is up. It's not a big draw but could contribute to a dead battery condition....
I never even thought of that, thanks!
As for the block of ice i was thinking of it for the freezer maybe it would speed it up?
How much power does the fridge atually take up? I know you will need the iginiter to light it, but after that isnit it just the little yellow lights on the top of the fridge thats sucking power?
Also how much power does the little light on the propane dector take? It cant be that much is it? Would it kill a battery in a week or so, what do you think?
Thanks again for all the quick responses.
Also i read somewhere on here it helps to have stuff in the fridge while starting it up, would it help to load up some water or pop?

fridge cooling

What is the best way to pre cool the firdge with something in it or it empty? Would putting a block of ice in it help it to cool quicker? The firdge has to be started on propane as its at a storage yard and no electricity. Also is starting it the night before on propane good enough time to cool it? Thanks

RE: Dry camping questions

When I dry camp I take along a few of those collapsible 5 gallon plastic water containers. I also have a spare 12volt water pump so that I can refill my water tank when needed. I just hook it up to the truck battery and pump away.
After a few dry camping trips tou will learn how to conserve your water and batteries. Have Fun
x2 but i made a connection to plug into my trailer hook up on the back of my truck and just plug in there. My father in law buit a big holding tank in his truck to fill his trailer while we dry camp out at Christina lake in BC, works awsome and virtually no work!

RE: Did I wreck my axles??

trekker
there is certainly nothing wrong with jacking the axle on a standard suspension trailer. I wouldn't go much farther than a 6-8 inches inside the axle U bolt especially on heavier trailers. I've jack from 2750 lb axles to 8000 lb axles with no problems. Fact I never heard of not jacking from the axle or have I ever heard of axle problems from jacking the axle until I became a RV.net member.
Jim
Me too never heard of untill this site, then it saids it in my prodigy install manual, and on the dexter axle website and now see it every where i read.So i did build a 2x6 boards to drive up on and just be as quick as possible. Thanks guys

RE: Did I wreck my axles??

Do you for sure know you bent them, or are you just assuming. Keep an Eye on the tire wear, that will show sooner then later.
If the jack was near the springs then your properly cool. If it's a tandem axils, you only need to drive on wheel up on some blocks, the other will clear the ground enough to allow removal. JM2Cents Bill
I am assuming and i was a bit away from the end of the axle cause it was the only way to get a jack stand near the end.
I have 2 3500lb Dexter axles, I also thought driving on a board is too much weight on the other axle too??

Did I wreck my axles??

How do you know if you have wrecked you axles by jacking them up improperly? Didint know at the time I was doing it wrong. I jacked both my axles on the axle then put a jack stand under them. Just wondering will it drive really bad or do you have to watch for uneven tire wear?

Trailer power amp services??

I have a 1998 Kit companion 25ft 5th wheel and how do you know what amp you can plug into at a rv park? I have never done this yet so im a little confused on all of it with the 15 amp and 30 amp services and if my trailer can do it or not.
Thanks

RE: Lifting 5er to change tires

Also if you cant lift with the axle what does everybody do when they go camping and get a flat on the way? Bring big blocks and a big floor jack with you everytime?
My frame is like a L its flat under neaith with a piece of meatl comming down on one side like an L. So it just doesnt seeem safe to lift it on the fram like that.
